EDITORIAL POLICY

How we rank.

Every company on our lists has earned its place. That includes #1. No listing or ranking position is paid for, sponsored, or reserved as a featured placement.

One standard for every position

Our lists reflect an editorial judgment about the strongest options for the service and area covered by each guide. The same criteria apply from first place to last. The #1 company is our top editorial pick for that guide; it does not receive preferential treatment through payment or a commercial arrangement.

Our ranking rubric

Customer experience and reputation carry the most importance. We then consider relevant expertise, local fit, and the clarity of the information available about the business. We use these factors together rather than treating a single star average or review count as the deciding factor.

1. Customer review quality and consistency

Where available, we consider public reviews on platforms such as Google, Yelp, and relevant industry directories. We look at ratings alongside the substance, recency, volume, and consistency of feedback. Detailed accounts of completed work carry more context than vague praise. A small set of perfect ratings does not automatically outrank a longer, consistent record.

2. Overall online sentiment

We consider recurring themes across public customer feedback and relevant online discussions: quality of work, reliability, communication, value, and follow-through. Repeated concerns matter more than an isolated complaint. We distinguish independent feedback from testimonials and claims published by the company itself.

3. Relevant services and demonstrated expertise

We look for a clear match to the guide’s service category, supported where possible by specific project examples, portfolios, case studies, or relevant experience. A broad service list alone is less useful than clear evidence of work that matches a reader’s needs. Published claims are considered in context and are not treated as independently verified results.

4. Long Island relevance

We consider stated service coverage, a local presence, and experience serving Nassau and Suffolk County. A company must be relevant to the area covered by the guide. Readers should still confirm coverage at their own address.

5. Transparency and customer care

Clear business identity, accessible contact information, useful service descriptions, and an understandable estimate or consultation process help readers make an informed choice. Where visible, we consider how a company responds to feedback and handles concerns. Credentials contribute only when supported by an identifiable source; readers should verify current licensing and insurance before hiring.

6. Strength of the available evidence

We consider how recent, specific, and consistent the information is across sources. Limited public feedback means less certainty, not an assumed poor reputation. We do not fill gaps with invented reviews, review counts, credentials, or performance scores. When companies are closely matched, more substantial recent customer evidence and a closer fit to the guide’s service and location help distinguish them.

What a ranking means

These are qualitative editorial rankings, not a numerical scoring system, customer vote, or guarantee of results. We do not claim to have personally tested every service. No business can buy inclusion or a higher position. Website links are provided for readers’ convenience and do not affect rank.

Sources and limitations

Each company profile includes its service fit, stated coverage, ranking rationale, review evidence, and a question to resolve before hiring. Company websites establish what a business offers; third-party feedback provides a separate perspective on customer experience. Company-selected testimonials and gaps in independently attributable reviews are clearly labeled.

Where a matching platform record is available, we show the rating and review count displayed in the source snapshot examined. These are third-party figures, not our own scores, and may lag the live platform. Counts from different platforms are not added together because reviews may overlap. A regional or branch-specific record is identified as such, and similarly named businesses are not assumed to be the same company. This is a bounded public-source review, not a complete audit of every review or a certification of its authenticity.

Hiring decisions and updates

A top-ranked company may not be the right fit for every project. Confirm current services, availability, pricing, credentials, and coverage directly before hiring. Rankings can change as new evidence becomes available. The displayed review date reflects a content review, not continuous monitoring.

Corrections

Factual corrections and new source evidence can inform an editorial review without purchasing a placement. A dedicated editorial contact address will be added once confirmed. Until then, this site does not collect correction submissions.
